Report on podcasts in a German classroom at a high school in Scotland

This is an interesting report by the Scottish teacher/educational technologist/teacher trainer Evan Mcintosh. He used podcasts within a task-based instructional framework. In his classroom at Dunoon Grammar School, the students not only develop linguistically, they also acquire critical skills if the area of digital literacy.

YouTube - What a great source of videocasts!!!

WWW.YOUTUBE.COM is the fastest-growing web sites on the world wide web. It offers the possibility to upload short video sequences. These sequences may be self-produced by the user, or he/she has imported the material from television programs, DVDs, or other commercial material. The uploaded material is easily searchable and accessible for the public, and the service in free of charge. Most clips are in English, but the number of clips on languages is rising dramatically. Since the web site does not allow the downloading of the video clips on the user’s hard drive, there are less copyright concerns. Instead, the clips are broadcasted directly from the web site. Therefore, from a purely technological viewpoint, clips on YouTube should not be regarded as podcasts. However, from an educational viewpoint they can be easily compared to video podcasts. In classrooms with access to broadband internet, it is irrelevant if the video files come from a hard drive or from the internet. YouTube is especially popular among teenagers, and male and female users are registered in almost equal numbers.

For a general and up-to-date overview on www.Youtube.com, please check out this wikipedia entry:

Of course, you should not miss to check out the web site. But be warned: It is highly addictive...

German podcast info on "about.com"-platform

I want to recommend two sites that deal with German podcasts and feature a small directory of links. Both sites are hosted on the ‘about.com’-platform, so beware of pop-up windows. The first site concentrates on audio material, the second site introduces videocasts.
